Maple T.A. - NEW IN VERSION 6.0
Maple T.A. can now be incorporated into virtually any course management system, including Moodle™. This latest release also includes a translatable interface, performance improvements, and enhancements to the question repository.
Integration with Course Management and Learning Management Systems
Moodle
Support for Moodle, a popular open source course management system, is included in Maple T.A. 6.
- Users can easily access Maple T.A. from their Moodle courses.
- Authentication and login of users into the Maple T.A. system is automatic when you access Maple T.A. from Moodle.
- Questions and assignments can be created by accessing Maple T.A. from within Moodle courses.
- Student results are automatically posted to both the Moodle and Maple T.A. grade books.
- Instructors can also make further updates to the Moodle grade book in Maple T.A. For example, an instructor can use Maple T.A. to create a report of the best, most recent, or average grades for the assignment, and then export the results to Moodle.
- Schools can choose to keep either the best or the most recent result in the Moodle grade book when multiple attempts are made.
Blackboard
The Maple T.A. Connector for Blackboard® Software (available separately) has been updated to work with Maple T.A. 6.
Other Course Management Systems
If you are using any other course management system, including custom-built solutions, you can incorporate Maple T.A. into your system using a new web services application programming interface (API). This API lets you extract data from Maple T.A. for classes, assignments, and grades. Using this API, you can create a programmatic link between your course management system and Maple T.A., so the two systems can function together seamlessly.
International Language Support
In addition to supporting the use of non-English languages in questions, the Maple T.A. interface itself can now be easily translated to other languages.
- Menus, messages, help, and other text seen by the instructors and students can be displayed in the local language.
- The translation can be done through a simple web interface; no programming knowledge is required.
- To configure Maple T.A. to use the translation, the system administrator only needs to place a single file in the installation folder.
- Translation can be done all at once or in stages. You can get your students up and running quickly with a partial translation and add to it over time.
- As new translations are created, Maplesoft will make them freely available to all institutions (with the permission of the translator).
If your institution is interested in creating or using a translated Maple T.A. interface, please contact Maplesoft.
Increased Performance
Improvements to memory management and database performance significantly reduce the time required for various Maple T.A. operations, especially in the cases where large amounts of class data and question content are involved.
- Maple T.A. start-up time is greatly reduced and takes only a few seconds, even with large amounts of data.
- Loading time of the class homepage and assignment editor can be up to an order of magnitude faster.
- Improved memory management reduces the load on the server and leaves more memory available for other tasks, such as faster processing of Maple questions or handling more students.
Enhancements to Question Repository
The question management model has been enhanced to provide more flexible and efficient tools for organizing your content. Additional functionality gives you the ability to:
- Select multiple questions and then perform operations on the all of the questions at the same time: deleting the
questions, assigning them to groups, removing them from groups, and moving them between groups.
- Search within all subgroups of selected groups.
- Permanently delete unused questions, including earlier versions of active questions, from the repository to obtain an uncluttered view of the content and increase database efficiency.
